Proud to Represent the St. Louis Blues at the Canadian District Annual Street Hockey Game

I had a great time at the Canadian District ITE meeting in Regina. I made many new friends and learned a lot. The meeting was uniquely Canadian down to the “East versus West” Street Hockey game. The meeting featured a strong technical program including keynote presentations by the Honorable Nancy Heppner from the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, Deputy Mayor Hawkins from the City of Regina, Rupen Pandya from Sask Builds, and Kwei Quaye from SG.

Florida (District 10) hosted a joint meeting in Orlando with ITE, ITS-Florida, and IMSA. The result was a fusion of planning, design, and operations in an interesting, thought provoking, and educational technical program.

The district’s traffic bowl was competitive with 5 teams participating: University of Mayaguez Puerto Rico, Florida International University, University of Central-Florida, University of South-Florida, and the University of Florida. Congratulations to all who participated and special thanks to emcee Dan Beaty!

Special thanks go to out to the Florida Section/District 10 Board, members and the Local Arrangement Committee, and all of the attendees whose warmth made the trip a welcoming experience!

The legendary Intermountain Section meeting lived up to its reputation. There are few places anywhere as beautiful as Jackson Hole, and the Intermountain Section members are welcoming and know how to have fun. That was all in addition to a top notch technical program.

Special thanks go to out to Section President D.J. Clark and all of the Intermountain Section members for your warmth and hospitality! Thanks also to our welcoming committee, Mike Sanderson, and to Jim Pline who has been a driving force to the Intermountain Section for the past 50 years.

The Northeast District hosted an educational and entertaining meeting in Albany, New York. In addition to a enjoying a strong technical program, I had the fortune to participate in a Complete Streets walking tour of State Street and enjoy an address by Kathy M. Sheehan, Mayor of Albany. Mayor Sheehan encouraged our profession to recognize the changes occurring throughout the globe and build the transportation systems that will best serve our children and grand-children. We need to recruit Kathy for the ITE advocacy committee!

Quad Meeting (Joint Annual Meeting of the Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Oregon, and Washington ITE Sections, May 1–2)

On the Bridge of the Sea Bus Ferry during the Waterfront Station Intermodal Facilities Tour

The Annual Quad meeting offered a strong program on active and multimodal transportation. I started the meeting with a tour of the Waterfront Station intermodal facilities. This included a walking tour of the station and the West Coast Express commuter train as well as a ride (and visit to the Bridge) on the Sea Bus Ferry.I ended the meeting with a bike tour of the Seaside (Point Grey) bicycle facilities. Vancouver takes active transportation seriously, with some bicycle facilities carrying nearly one and a half million bicycles a year!

The local arrangements committee did a great job to make everyone feel welcome, and really hit a home run with the harbor dinner cruise.

Great Lakes District Annual Meeting (April 20–21)

It was a short, but productive visit with the Great Lakes District at their Annual Meeting in Dayton, Ohio. I had a chance to reconnect with old friends Hardik Shah, Colleen Hill-Stramsak, and Paula Benway as well as former student Ericka Miller.

The panel discussion by Jim Barna (Chief Engineer of the Ohio DOT), Greg Johnson (Chief Operations Engineer of the Michigan DOT), and Jay Wasson (Deputy Commissioner Engineering and Asset Management of the Indiana DOT) was informative and insightful. Many state DOTs are facing financial challenges and it is good to share strategies to deal with the funding shortfall.

Special thanks go to out to Scott Knebel and Hardik Shah who made sure that all of the accommodations and details were taken care of during our visit. I had a great time!

Southern District Annual Meeting (April 19–22)

I had a great time at the Southern District ITE meeting. Biloxi is beautiful and the southern hospitality is the real deal. I made many new friends and learned a lot. The Southern District puts a personal touch on everything, making for a unique and special experience. I hope to see you all in Nashville and at the Georgia Summer Seminar next year!

Texas ITE Annual Meeting (March 11–13)

Aggie hospitality was overflowing at the Texas ITE Annual Meeting in College Station.  I had a great time meeting with old friends and making many new ones.

2015 Texas District Sporting Clay Event

The Brazos Valley Section treated us with a Clay Shoot-Out Event, Texas Hold ’em Poker Tournament, and social event in Downtown Bryan.  There was a strong technical program including a PE prep course, HSM workshop, ethics training, strong technical sessions, and several tours.

Special thanks goes to out to Kay Fitzpatrick who coordinated travel arrangements, Gary Thomas who volunteered to be my personal late-night welcoming committee, Melisa Peoples Finley who made sure I was able to participate in the Clay Shoot-Out Event, John Friebele who let me use his shotgun, and Robert Wunderlich who pointed out appropriate targets along the way.

Howdy!
